St. Barbara

This room is located on the second floor of the Convent of Chièvres. To reach the building, walk from the parking lot over the authentic cobblestones a bit through the Great Beguinage.

A bit of history

Saint Barbara was removed from the official church calendar in 1969. According to legend, her father locked her in a tower and beheaded her when he discovered she had converted to Catholicism, after which he was struck by lightning. Barbara was venerated by the Beguines, and her (unofficial) feast day is December 4.
