Joos Florquin converted the attic of the Convent van Chièvres (the room now known as Florquin) into an experimental ‘chamber theatre’ for his students of Germanic literature. He established a summer school that bore his name, and that is still held at the University of Leuven.
This room is located on the second floor of the Convent van Chièvres. To reach this building, you walk from the car park some distance into the Grand Beguinage. In view of the location’s historical character, the streets are paved with authentic cobblestones. Faculty Club does not have a lift.
This room is named after Joos Florquin (1916-1978). He gained considerable popularity with his TV programme ‘Hier Spreekt men Nederlands’, which was broadcast several times a week from his own home in Kessel-Lo from 1962 to 1972. He presented the programme together with Fons Fraeters, Annie Van Avermaet and his legendary dog. Equal success was achieved with the series ‘Ten Huize van’, in which a famous person from Flanders or the Netherlands was interviewed in each programme.
